Jody Folkmanis created her first animal puppets in the 1960s to entertain her own children, and she was astounded when her creations began attracting paying customers. In 1976, her husband Atis joined the endeavor, happily abandoning a career in biochemistry for pattern-cutting. They hired several seamstresses and never looked back.

After more than 40 years, Folkmanis Puppets is still a family business. Judy and Atis oversee both the creative and operational sides to ensure that the quality and love of the natural world remain true to their original vision.
